Fareway Stores to Expand
 in Waverly 
    
                      

Fareway Stores, Inc. is in the process of constructing a new grocery store facility at 222 West Bremer Avenue, directly north of their current store in downtown Waverly.  The existing store will be removed upon completion of the new facility and will allow for additional parking.  The newly constructed 33,077 sq. ft. store will employ an additional 6 people and is scheduled for completion in late 2010.  Located next to the newly constructed Walgreens store completed in 2009, these projects represent a significant reinvestment in the downtown Waverly business district.

Goodwill Industries to Locate in Waverly

                          


Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa has announced plans to locate a facility in Waverly.  They have purchased a building previously occupied by the UNI-NABL Center at 400 Technology Place, in Waverly's Southwest Business Park.  Located along the 4th Street SW business corridor with easy access in and out of the property, Goodwill plans to open a retail store with receiving area, which will employ two full-time managers and seven full-time equivalent associate positions.  Following establishment of the retail operation, Goodwill intends to develop "back end" job opportunities with community manufacturers that utilize their established programs designed for disadvantaged and disabled individuals.

Carmi Flavors to Expand                

A nearly $1 million expansion of Carmi Flavors & Fragrance Company in Waverly will create 75 jobs and retain 9 existing jobs.  Carmi, a producer of flavorings for food and beverages, plans to build a 24,750 sq. ft. building in Waverly's NW Industrial Park to be used for shipping, receiving, and warehousing. The Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) Board on August 20th, awarded the project $150,000 from the Grow Iowa Values Financial Assistance Program (GIVFAP) and the City of Waverly approved their financial incentives on August 24th.  Carmi is introducing Soylato, a non-dairy Italian-style galato made with all-natural soy and distributing a new machine that dispenses the Soylato soft serve ice cream.
